Inside the “Settings” submenu, the first tab is for the “General” settings. Let’s look into its various options and the effects they will bring in setting up a directory website.
Bootstrap options
“Advanced Classifieds and Directory Pro” uses Bootstrap 3 CSS framework for the directory front-end design. By default, the plugin will load all the required CSS & JS files from Bootstrap. If your theme uses Bootstrap, then you can disable the following options. So they are not loaded twice.
- Include bootstrap CSS
- Include bootstrap JavaScript libraries
Listing duration (in days)
The number of days a listing should be shown on your website. Use a value of “0” to keep a listing alive indefinitely.
Enable locations
Check this to allow users to enter listing “Contact Details”.
Base location
This will be a dropdown option and populated using the LOCATION items you’ve created under your “WordPress Admin Panel => Classifieds & Directory => Locations”
Let us assume that you have the following locations tree structure under the Plugin’s Locations menu. But, your directory is only for USA and you like to keep only the locations under USA. Then, simply select “USA” from this select field and this will change your directory to USA. The other locations like “CANADA”, “Toronto” or “Ottawa” will not get displayed anywhere in your website.
To show all the locations, revert back to the default selection “– Select a location –”

Default location
This setting allows you to configure the location that should be selected by default when adding a new listing.
Like “Base Location”, this field also populated using the LOCATION items you’ve created under “WordPress Admin Panel => Classifieds & Directory => Locations”
Prevent listings from being posted to top level categories?
Check this option if you don’t want to have listings in parent categories.
Text Editor
Select the type of Text Editor you like to have in the front-end listing submission form.
Enable price
Check this to allow users to enter price amount in their listings.
Enable images
Check this to allow users to upload images for their listings.
Maximum images allowed per listing
Enter the number of images the users are allowed to upload per listing.
Enable videos
Check this to allow users to add videos for their listings. Only YouTube & Vimeo URLs.
Enable map
Check this to allow users to add map for their listings.
Contact form
Allow visitors to contact listing authors privately. Authors will receive the messages via email.
Require login for using the contact form?
Check this to require login to use the contact form.
Comment form
Check this to allow visitors to discuss listings using the standard WordPress comment form. Comments are public.
Report abuse
Check this to enable Report abuse.
Add to favourites
Check this to enable favourite Listings.
Default new listing status
Default status for the new listings added by your site users through the site front-end.
Options are,
- Publish
- Pending
Edit listing status
Status to which the active listings should be moved when edited.
Options are,
- Publish
- Pending
Show “New” tag
Check this to show “New” tag on listings (only if applicable).
New listing threshold (in days)
Enter the number of days the listing will be tagged as “New” from the day it is published.
Label text for new listings
Enter the text you want to use inside the “New” tag.
Show “Popular” tag
Check this to show “Popular” tag on listings (only if applicable).
Popular listing threshold (in views count)
Enter the minimum number of views required for a listing to be tagged as “Popular”.

Show / Hide (in listing detail pages)
Show or hide following details in the listing detail pages,
- Category name
- Date added
- Listing owner name
- Views count
Turn on listing renewal option?
Check this to turn on listing renewals.
Delete expired Listings (in days)
Enter the number of days after the expired listings must be deleted.
Listings / Search Results page
Display options
At present, “Advanced Classifieds and Directory Pro” can display listings in 3 different views.
- List view
- Grid view
- Map view
You must select at least one view. When more than one view selected, a drop-down option with label “View as” will show in listings archive page headers. Users can switch between the views using this drop-down.
Default view
When you have selected multiple views, this will be the default view.
Include results from
- Child categories – Include listings from child categories.
- Child locations – Include listings from child locations.
Order listings by
- Title
- Date posted
- Price
- Views count
Sort listings by
- Ascending
- Descending
Number of columns
Enter the number of columns you like to have in the “Grid” view.
Listings per page
Number of listings to show per page. Use a value of “0” to show all listings.
Show / Hide (in header)
Show or hide the following options in the listing archive page headers,
- Listings count
- Views selector
- “Sort by” dropdown
Show / Hide (in each listing)
Show or hide the following details inside each listing entries,
- Category name
- Location name
- Item price (only if applicable)
- Date added
- Listing owner name

User Login / Registration
Enable Login / Registration
- Allow the plugin to take care of user Login / Registration.
- (OR) Use the registration system you already have in your website. You will need to add the Login / Registration / Forgot Password Page URLs of your registration system in the fields below to get this work. Checking this option and leaving the following fields empty will simply enable the standard WordPress Login / Registration mechanism.
Custom Login URL
Optional. Add your custom Login Page URL or a [shortcode] that renders the Login form. Leave this field empty to add the standard WordPress Login form.
Custom Registration URL
Optional. Add your custom Registration Page URL. Leave this field empty to use the standard WordPress Registration URL.
Custom Forgot Password URL
Optional. Add your custom Forgot Password Page URL. Leave this field empty to use the standard WordPress Forgot Password URL.
Currency Settings
Currency settings under this section are used to format the display of listing Price. You can have separate currency to accept payments from your users. Configure payment currency
Currency
Enter your currency.
Currency position
Location of the currency sign. Possible values are “After” and “Before”.
Thousands separator
The symbol (usually , or .) to separate thousands.
Decimal separator
The symbol (usually , or .) to separate decimal points.
